Saturday 15th October 2pm-4pm

“Learning with strength, love and faith.”

Thank you very much to everyone who came along to our Open Afternoon. The school was buzzing with new families meeting current ST Mary’s families and children giving tours of the school. This year our tour guides were ‘School Champions’, children who had nominated themselves for their strength in speaking out, meeting new people and being positive advocates for our school. There were children of all ages acting as School Champions and we were very proud to hear so much positive feedback about what a great job they did.

Tours of the school included visiting the library, playground and each classroom. A highlight for many of our visitors was the Magic Carpet where everyone could experience swimming with tropical fish. Another highlight was the Big Draw activities which included chalk drawing on the playground, img_0156mark making in clay and creating a giant string picture. Well img_0168done to everyone for all the beautiful creative work which was produced throughout the afternoon.

Miss Maltby, Headteacher, then thanked everyone who was involved in making the day such a great

Miss Maltby talked about these sunflowers which our Reception class planted when they first came to St Mary's last Spring, and how big and beautiful the sunflowers are now. The sunflowers growth reflect the growth the children do during their time at St Mary's.

success and about how children at St Mary’s grow. She then introduced two of our Y6 School Champions who wanted to speak out about St Mary’s. They spoke very movingly about the impact St Mary’s had had on their family lives, and how school was a part of their extended family, somewhere where they felt safe and happy, and ready to learn.
