Starting the long distance race

This afternoon friends, families and children all gathered on The Croft to celebrate an afternoon of sport. The weather was perfect, warm, with a cool breeze, and the atmosphere was full of excitement with a hint of competitiveness as children and families cheered on their respective houses.

Sports Day was an opportunity for the children to demonstrate all they had learned with St Mary’s Sports Coach Mr Dalton, and it was also an opportunity to experience and learn about team building. Everyone had to face challenges together, solves team problems by working together and also to have lots of fun.

Miss Maltby provided the commentary for the afternoon, interviewing the children while they waited on the starting line. Most of the children reported they were feeling nervous, scared and excited. Their nervous energy fed their determination to do well and some excellent times were recorded throughout the afternoon.

At the end of the afternoon Mrs McGlew was very proud to share the excellent achievements of this year’s Y6 Sats results. Y6 enjoyed a huge round of applause from the crowd and they were all presented with certificates commemorating their achievement (see seperate blog for more information about their fantastic results). Finally, the moment came when the afternoon’s scores were added together to determine the winning team. It was a very close call with only a few points between the top two houses, but this year the victors were Rother. Congratulations Rother!
