Sports Day 2016!

On Friday 8th July 2016 St Mary’s children brought The Croft alive with colour, noise and sport!

Children showed support for their house by wearing either yellow (Cuckmere), blue (Medway), red (Rother) or green (Teise). The race schedule challenged children to try their best, be determined, work as a team and support each other. St Mary’s children all rose to the challenge, and the air was filled with the happy sound of cheering and clapping for every last compeditor.

Our Sports Coach, Mr D, did a brilliant job of encouraging and organising everyone, across a wide range of activities from relay to sprinting. We were very pleased that the children from Hartfield Playschool came to join us for part of the afternoon and had their very own running race.

Sports Day was full of magical moments of perseverance, determination and team work. It is traditional that the last race of the day is the Y6’s ‘Race for the Train’, where the Y6 children have to put on some wellies, a hat, scarf and gloves, a skirt, a coat, pick up an umbrella and finally wheel their suitcase to the finish line. This year Y6 decided they would go over the finish line together and it was really inspiring to see them all working together to cross the line as a team. Well done Y6! As Miss Maltby said, you have been incredible role models for the whole school. You will be missed, but we know your futures are very bright.

After Sports Day everyone stayed to enjoy a BBQ, fun and games in our annual summer social, organised by our PTFA. Thank you PTFA for all your support for Sports Day. You did an incredible job at setting up for the event and ensuring everyone had so much fun after Sports Day. Thank you for all you do to support the children at St Mary’s.

Thank you also to all the team at St Mary’s for making Sports Day such a wonderful success, and especially to the children who were amazing!
